Self-published Drum Methods:

Snare Drum Duet Book No.1 ($8.00) A duet method for beginning snare drum students. Syncopation and rhythm reading progress in a thorough, systematic manner starting with basic quarter notes in four-four time, to two-four, and three-four meter, adding dynamics and off beat syncopations with counting notated above rhythms. Accents, crescendo/decrescendo, and mix-meter are introduced by Duet 15. Duet 19 introduces sixteen notes, flams by Duet 21, five-stroke rolls start with Duet 23.

The book ends with Duet 27 which is intermediate in level, summarizing all of the learned rhythms and techniques. Excellent for group snare drum class. Start snare drum students with this book!

Snare Drum Duet Book No. 2  ($10.00) This 37-page book begins at an intermediate level ascending to advanced snare drum techniques.  Challenging as lesson assignments, this book also works well in performance as recital duets.  Duets 4 though 20 are two pages in length. A good book for the high school though college level student.
Drum Set Book No.1 ($10.00) For the beginning drum set student, a 40-page method that includes all the necessary material for a strong foundation: warm ups, stick and set technique, coordination, independence exercises, fills, and swing 8th note interpretation. Many musical styles such as rock, jazz, progressive, and Latin styles. Starting at the most basic rudimentary level, stickings and counted are marked. This is a great way for the young student to make the transition from snare drum to drum set.  A must have for the beginner!
Technique & Styles: Drum Set Book No. 2 ($12.00)

A 60-page intermediate-advanced level drum set method with all the tools: flexibility and coordination exercises for independence, contemporary styles of funk, rock, pop, jazz styles from swing, bop, modern, and polyrhythmic jazz, various Latin styles, odd meters, three four jazz, shuffle, and charts.  A complete, challenging method for the gigging set drummer.

Drum Set Recital Charts ($10.00)

A popular book for set students, this book includes 40 charts for the beginning though advanced level that can be used as a great supplement with the other set books or in recital performance. Many different styles, grooves, and fills. I have used improvised piano to accompany students in recital. Practical, well-written grooves and fills with stickings marked. Fun to play, excellent for reading and technique!

Harkness. Heard as a finalist in the Ostwald Contest and again when the United States Coast Guard Band played it at the Mid-West International Band and Orchestra Clinic. This piece is a fine serious work for the mature band. CB $95. FS $12. On Tape #20.

The title refers to the state park located in Waterford, CT and was inspired by the expertise of the fine U.S. Coast Guard Band conducted by Louis Buckley based in New London. A percussionist who has studied with two members of the Boston Symphony percussion section, Briggs has written tastefully for the percussion with fine use of mallet instruments. It has much sensitive writing for the band and is a challenge both musically and technically. (click for MP3)
